Experience

A qualified accountant with over 40 years of audit and advisory experience across a variety of sectors, Alan was previously a partner at Grant Thornton. While there he had overall responsibility for delivering internal audit services to central government and the not-for-profit sector. In his time at RSM Robson Rhodes, he established a national risk assurance service function, focusing on the education and housing sectors.

Alan’s Higher Education experience includes working with the following universities: Oxford, Cambridge, London, Middlesex, Brunel, Canterbury Christ Church, Aston, Sussex, Coventry and Birmingham City.

Outside of HE, he’s worked with HM Treasury, the Department of Health and the Home Office, and with regulatory bodies including the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council. He’s also worked with four accounting bodies: ICAEW, CIMA, CIPFA and the ACCA.

Role

  • Overall responsibility for the delivery of KCG services to all member institutions and non-members
  • Develops and maintains relationships with all KCG members
  • Leads organisational development of KCG
  • Overall responsibility for business development and strategy, operations and administration, and financial management
  • Ensures methods meet both Office for Students and KCG member requirements
  • Head of Internal Audit for Kingston University, University of Bedfordshire, National Film and Television School, Royal College of Music, and the Courtauld Institute of Art
  • Leads relationship with Conservatoire for Dance and Drama
